Project Information

This dish was from a 1 1/4" thick slab of pistachio that was cut from a tree from California that was grafted about
50 yrs ago.The light colored wood is the root stock and the dark brown/black wood is the latest tree stock from the graft. The slab was about 5 ft long and very dry and cracked everywhere. I made 4 long pieces from the sides of the tree stock and threw the center away but saved this end to make this dish. It took a lot of filling with black epoxy at every step of the way.

This tells what to put on a charcuterie board/ tray/dish: https://foodiesfamily.com/what-to-put-on-a-charcuterie-board/.

It finished at 14 5/8" diameter and 7/8" thick The bottom is about 3/8" thick. It is finished with Danish oil and buffed and waxed.

Cheers, Jim

Oh, My! That is gorgeous!

Mimi wanted one of those charcuterie things, She wanted hers to be a tray with a recess for a dip bowl. I like yours much better!!

That's a Beauty Jim, Great Work!
Used to make a lot of Cheeseboard Spreads for banquets
They gave me mirrors to use, big ones (30" X 30" maybe)
Arrange Fruits, Vegetables, Cheese, Cold Cuts, nice and neat and pretty…
Fun work, when ya can get it!

Jim, we all know what you can do with a chunk of wood but this time you have re-invented yourself with your foresight in seeing what can be.
The black epoxy is a perfect fit (fix)

That's sharp looking Jim and way better than the paper plated we use. Nice finish too. Well worth every drop of epoxy.
