A few weeks ago I got a text from another LJ’r – he said he ran out of storage room and would I take some curly maple off his hands. I’ll not go into detail but there was no money exchanged nor was there any promise of anything to trade.
I’ve made a few things with the maple and have enough left to make nearly anything else I want to make. Of course after making a few little boxes I had to make a lamp using the curly and a little walnut to add some color.
I wanted to point out that picture one is the lamp unplugged and picture two has the led turned on to show the clear resin tinted ever so lightly with sliver metalic powder.
There are 5 rings of curly maple, 5 rings of silver resin and one ring of walnut that shows at the bottom of the shade and at the very top.
I did turn the base as well as the upper mount in picture 5 and the walnut top all on my Nova Mini lathe.
I hope the new owner likes it and has somewhere to place it so it won’t be in his way. lol ‹(•¿•)›
Enjoy and
Thanks for looking

I really like how the “tone” is maintained for the entire piece, maple all the way with just a touch of color!
Having a hard time believing someone just “ran out of room” to store some figured maple, Perhaps it fell off the back of a truck??? 8^)
Fine job Dick, hope you made a pair!

Awesome Lamp Dick. I made a end table and a computer table that would make the perfect match with that lamp. Maple with a walnut stripe, you can’t go wrong.

Beautiful work!
I especially love the second picture with this lamp on. I’m sure it really glows at night in a darkened room.

Great to see your craft continues, I’m sure the recipient will find room for it.
Nice touch with the branding at the top, very nice.
Kind Regards

pottz – Thanks Pottz, not sure about who’s is nicest
splintergroup – it’s true, he ran out of space and if you ever saw his shop you would understand. It’s almost too light for me but the curly makes up for it
Jim Jakosh – Thanks Jim
doubleDD – Thanks Dave – I’ll have another curly maple lamp in a couple weeks
MrWolfe – Thank you, yes it does make a lot of light because of the resin and a 5 watt led
Eric – Thanks Eric
anthm27 – Anthony, good to hear from you. were you able to get your lamp from Hong Kong to the ranch ? if not, we’ll figure something out. I’ve never shipped to Australia but I will

Thanks for the compliment and the offer but I’ve been renting a storage unit for 20 years to store my lumber – I just stack it higher when I need to

Recycle 1943,
Great lamp. The curly maple works well with the walnut. And the price was right.
