A friend of mine makes reproductions of antique flintlocks and has just finished this 1720 Dragoon horse pistol. He wanted an appropriate case for it and asked me to make the case. Wood is red oak locally harvested. Case dimensions are 9×24x3in. Since the pistol is a replica of a French cavalry handgun, the I programmed the top to carve with my CNC machine from a red oak plank. The motif is a fleur de lis with scroll work embellishments. Corners are finger jointed. The maker of the pistol finished the inside with velvet and made a powder flask from black walnut. The separate compartment is for flints and shot. Yes, the pistol is fully functional and great fun.

Beautiful box for a beautiful pistol. I have a soft spot for black powder though.
