My daughter saw this online, asked me to make one for my grandson.
It’s a wooden knife for a toddler to start learning cutting. the edge is high angle, so it’s not sharp enough to cut skin, but works pretty well (better than I expected) on bananas, apples, potatoes, cucumbers. Things with tough skin and soft middle like tomatoes don’t work well.
Curly maple because that was the only piece of hard maple I had on hand.
Drew out the shape, cut out on my three wheel bandsaw
Cutting the blade bevel was the challenge, made a little bevel cutting guide for the table saw, see the pictures.
Put the “edge” on the blade with a file, then progressively finer sandpaper. Then treated the whole edge with CA glue to harden it a bit hoping it’ll last longer.
Coated with Salad bowl finish.
What I’d do different:
Make it maybe an inch longer in lenght, and 3/4-1” shorter in height
After watching my grandson use it, I’d make the handle just an oval hole, as half the time he grabs it “backwards”. But either way, still works. :)

That’s brilliant! I remember when my sister was 3, she would shave her face with a food pusher… kids!!
