A Peruvian Walnut keepsake box with a bracket foot base. I used Bruso stop hinges and made the little brass tab for the lid myself out of some brass bar stock. the box is about 17” long, 11” wide, and 3” tall. finished with shellac
I cut the bracket foot out with a scroll saw and mitered the pieces together, I used tiny glue blocks to reinforce the miters
I shaped the rounded sides of the box with a hand plane, I had never done this before so I made a prototype with pine and poplar which now lives in my shop as extra storage

Beautifully done. I like the brass tab for the lid lift.
And, at first I thought the candles were part of the project – the camera angle got me!

Love the depth of the Walnut, Absolutely love the feet, and rounding the sides with a plane is off the hook. nice work.

Excellent work. But have you thought about finishing the interior? It needs a felt liner &/or a tray &/or a lid mirror, just something, to finish it off. The outside makes a beautiful promise that the bland interior fails to deliver. Perhaps a medallion on the underside of the lid? Very good work though.
I see a thin dark line around the top of the base. It’s a great detail, but it can’t quite figure what it is. Did you sandwich a thin layer or is it a groove, or … ?
Walnut is so pretty. I accent the variegated features. Nice stuff.

Very clean box.
I really like how the rounded box portion sits on the base.
They go together perfectly.
Great finish, both inside and out.
Have your say...
