got a wood carving disc for Christmas and this was the result of my first go at carving a box. started with 2” thick mahogany for the sides and top. the disc cut very nicely but man what a mess! can’t wait to get at some old fire wood to make a bowl or another box.
- any suggestions or criticism welcome. thx

Criticism is that it looks good. Nicely done.

Interesting how the light hitting it at different angles makes it appear lighter, and darker. Looks like the very rare Variegated Mahogany.
What cutting disk did you use?

Looks cool, but would be a bugga to sand…

Looks like quilted wood on steroids, fine work!
I also like the way the carvings transition around the corners, very organic.
Is it hinged or just a lift off lid?

That’s awesome and not because it’s your first shot a carving. It’s because it just is.
I see it’s at the dinner table. What’s in it a roast chicken? Lol
