Took a brief break from fly fishing clocks until I hear back from a few more shops. Don’t want to end up making more than I might need… considering fly fishing clocks play to a very specific audience.
For whatever reason, my Lowes keeps getting in 8 foot pieces of the Ambrosia Maple. I picked up two more very patterned pieces two days ago. It gave me the idea to make a wall clock that features the maple exclusively without the distraction of burl.
The clock face is my attempt to salvage from my scraps.
Not sure that I would make this design again, but I like how it turned out.
(Forgive the productivity and posting, but my wife is traveling and my teaching schedule is not drowning me in papers yet)

Thanks, Pottz. I see on the sticker an “AM”... which I’m guessing means Ambrosia Maple. They are selling it at $10 for an 8 foot board.
I’ve been grabbing up the stuff that has good markings from top to bottom.

Well, now you’re making me think I should try to make this design at least one more time. I already have some ideas as to how I would handle the clock face a little differently.

Woof! Nice work…. and I second Pottz, I can’t believe Lowes has that and has it for that price. I apparently need a better Lowes.

I really do like the style of this clock and may have to swipe your ideas on this. The grain really makes it stand out. I’m guessing you had to put the rods and center in before the glue up of the outer frame ? Excellent job !!! Mel

You do make nice clocks with very original designs. I’ve never seen ambrosias maple at our Lowe’s in So. Cal.
It must be a regional wood.
I used to fish when I lived back east and sure would like to see one of your fly fishing clocks.
