I have not yet tried my hand at making a fancy cutting board, but I did experiment with the process while making this frame for a piece of family wall art.
Squares are from cedar deck pickets and the corners are pine.

Interesting design! How did you hold thr artwork in place?

I cut a piece of 1/4” hardboard about 1/4” smaller inside and outside diameter and adhered it to the back. That provided a lip for the artwork to sit against in the front. Then put cardboard over the back to hold it in from behind. Not the most elegant solution, but it works.
