My first lathe project. Beer bottle stopper - I guess you could us it in a wine bottle too.

About 2 years ago, Woodcraft went out of business. The owner retired. I purchased a lathe from their classroom because it was a great deal and he threw in a few tools to boot; I had yet to put the lathe to use.

Getting into epoxy, I purchased a cheep cylinder mold to pour the excess epoxy into.

I finally decided to try my luck. Well, it is round. Beyond that, nothing fancy. Since, despite my bantering with others on this site, I often have a partial beer waiting when I get to the no finger cutting ops of a project.

I decided I needed a stopper. So, ta-da. My first lathe project.

Certainly, the next one will be better.

Thanks for visiting.

Ps. Poppy (Poplar) and Teak say hello from the French Goat Bar & Drill.

Pss. Just spayed it with polyurethane. It pops. But, then again. It might be eating the epoxy.

C’mon mads... sooner or later you need to stop the beer… might be the 5th. or 6th bottle in a row… but sooner or later it’s gotta stop.

Now you’ve done it though… mentioning you’ve got a lathe… pottzy will be sending you subliminal messages to get you potty turning a bowl… Will power.. if you can stop your 6th bottle you can stop anything.

Now that the moths are off that lathe, looking forward to the pens... all new turners have to make pens. You got a rotary attachment for your CNC? Can create great pen designs… however, if you do (make pens), please, please, please don’t make those bloody curvatious slimlines.. unless you take the label/design off that lbottle,

hell, I’m just about prepared to abandon my cheap cask-o-vino.

Oh yeah… well done on your first turning… nowhere as painful as all those shrinks/medicos predict.

Great, you got started with the lathe. The sky is the limit now.
Think of all the firewood you can turn into more almost useless items…..like beer stoppers… LOL The list is endless. The only bottles I put a stopper in is hard liquor because I can’t drink a whole bottle at one time. (-:

Just a suggestion for you pictures. Try to use a monotone background. This one has so much stuff in the background it is hard to get a good look at the item.

duckie he doesn’t use a cnc ,he actually makes things himself !!!! as far as pens there is no requirement to make pens, but they are fun and people love em.understand the duck is heavily funded by nasa,he doesn’t have what we would call a “woodshop” more a laboratory !

Pens just might make a nice FGT Christmas gift. Hmmm, I just wonder.

Pens are fun, but you soon run out of close friend and family and strangers want a $30 kit (without labour) for $1 or less…

pottzy you did well… no subliminal message… noticed you didn’t mention the Aussie cricket team... how we bowled the POMs out!
