Hi Lumberjockers:
Well, another day and another lamp. This time a ‘puppy lamp’.
This little critter is smaller than the previous ‘man-lamps’ I made, but otherwise is made the same way. There are five points of articulation: neck, shoulder, hips, ears and head.
This time, though, I used 1/4” threaded rod cut to length for the joints, which proved to be a much cleaner method of connecting the pieces. A little dab of ‘thread-lock’ was applied to each nut.
I traced my pattern onto 3/4” thick red oak and then used the band saw to rough out the shape of each piece. My stationary sander did the job of shaping the pieces to the pattern line.
As with the previous lamps, I used a cube-shaped track-light fixture for the light, along with an LED bulb. The cord includes an inline switch behind the head. The back of the head is sealed with a wooden plate fastener to the head with tiny screws. This will allow access to the innards of the wiring if necessary.
For the finish I use spray Varathane Professional, satin. Then I rubbed the surfaces smooth with a fine abrasive pad, then applied a light coat of paste wax to bring back the soft glow of the finish.
I have patterns for this puppy, so if you are interested, send me an email and I will send a photo of the pattern to you via return email.
Blessings and Peace,
Bill

Love it! Cute design. Your finishing process really makes the oak look great.

Excellent Bill. Maybe cool to have a man and a dog lamp on the same desk!
