After seeing my “askew” frame clock, a few LJs suggested I try it as a square rather than a rectangle so, for my last basement clock, I did just that. (You can see by my photos that I am up and out of the basement!)
This turned out pretty good. It’s 10×10” with that ambrosia maple from Lowes on the outside frame and a piece of wild cherry gall for the clock face.
Finished in wipe-on poly.
It went together pretty quickly!
The second to last photo, I wanted to show how I was using a socket from a socket wrench set as a straight jig, but then I thought what the heck, might as well show my garage “shop.”
It’s pitiful, but it’s mine!
Quarantine was productive with 5 clocks and 1 shadow box.

With the skewed frames, I like this one the best Van, the grains look great. That was a good find on the lumber.

Yeah, thanks for prompting me to try it square!

First, let me say I find both pleasing. Although my wife would like this one better because it is more symmetrical. I, on the other hand, like the first one better because it is more abstract – ergo – far more interesting and thought provoking.

I’m partial to the other clock too, but I like how this one turned out.
Thanks!

Thanks, Dick!
I am playing with the idea of doing a square over a rectangle… that would be a rectangle main frame and a square outer frame.

I think both versions are worthy efforts!
Your basement looks like my shop after a project marathon, only your space is more organized and cleaner 8^)

Glad you like them! Gotta take a woodworking break for a few days. Got my anniversary and just got a daughter home with her wisdom teeth out.
But, I think my next project might be to see if I can replicate that shadow box.
Thanks for looking!

Amazing…Your variations on a theme…Each stands alone and they all go together…Impressed!
That shop space has lots of potential…A project in it’s self…
Great looking clock…Nothing controversial there…
Looking at your projects pages, you’ve come a long way in three months…
Far out….

Thanks, Jack! I think a lot of my growth has come from joining LJs. The idea that I’ll be posting my projects really pushes me to do my best. Plus, I’ve received a lot of encouraging critique that has upped my game.
I was just looking through my photos on my phone and saw that I attempted and finished my first clock on Nov. 3.
Almost 2 months later, I’ve made 20 clocks (one I sold and one I gave to my sister)
I hope to have 35 to 50 clocks by May (though I also might mix in some of those shadow boxes)
Even colder weather is coming to Michigan, so we’ll see how that affects productivity.
As always, thanks for looking and commenting!

thats it bud, nailed it on this one.my only suggestion is move the hanger so it’s not visible,it’s stands out right above the clock face.

Thanks, Pottz! And moving the hanger makes sense. I have some of that ambrosia board left, so I think I’ll take a shot at replicating this clock.
