Burl Clock

Arrived home on Sunday after delivering my sister’s clock to her… and she loved it! After a few days out of the shop, I had the itch, so I started another clock. Obviously this is a variation on a theme. I did have fun with the light to dark sequencing. This also features a larger clock face and the side pieces are a little more natural with some live edge.

On a separate note, I’ve decided that although I’m very proud of my sobriety (now over 7 1/2 months sober), I don’t want it to define me or my woodworking. Early on, the woodworking certainly gave me something to do in the evening when I normally would have been drinking. However, woodworking has become more for me than simply trying to avoid pouring a drink. Therefore, my new name for my shop is VanDesign Woodworking rather than what was once Zero Whiskey Woodworking.

My last name is Vande Zande, so it’s a bit of a play off my nickname and my last name.

Another diseased wood beauty, nice work.

Good to see the name change, appreciate the history, but your work is standing on it’s own legs very well, let that carry you forward.

Thank you for both the compliment on the clock, but also on the name change!

Thanks, Pottz! My wife actually pushed for me to use smaller hands on this clock. I was skeptical at first, but the small hands have grown on me.

That’s pretty nice from a guy with no shop, no tools or really much wood history…

Awesome, looks fantastic…

Good choice to change your name…

Cool man…

The colors on that center burl are killer!

Great concept and you keep refining the layout which is what it is all about. Love to hear your journey is progressing well!

I also think the scale of the hands is a nice improvement, great work!

Yeah, I have more of that burl left, too… stay tuned.

Took me a bit to adjust to smaller hands, but they work for me now!

You are really finding your groove on these. Well done and good transformation too. (thanks for the explanation)

Another well done clock Van, sorry I missed this one the other day.
The name change is a great idea too, congrats on moving forward with a life style. Keep up the good work.
