The light colored wood is cypress and the dark colored wood is thermally modified poplar. http://www.baileywp.xom/html/tm_poplar.html. There is no stain on these project, it has a 2K urathane clear coat. All solid wood. The legs on the bench are imbedded into the bench top and glued with a urathan foaming glue. The legs are made of 8 pieces of poplar and the two outside pieces are tapered then glued together to make the tapered legs. The cypress is from a tree that was cut down and the logs were cut into slabs with the live edge. A simple but clean modern look. This table set was designed by Ron at S & L Millworks.

This is a working link for the thermally modified poplar. For people who don’t know what it is.

Looks great. I’ve worked with thermally modified poplar – like it. The look is almost like walnut. Color contrast is very nice for this project

Thank you. The 4/4 is nice to work with but the 8/4 has a lot of cracks that you have to work around.

Is thermally modified something like torrefied? Regardless, great looking project!

Love it. The contrast of colors. The nice combination of natural look with modern flavor. Very nicely done.
