Christmas Gifts- Decided to build a box to store pencils for my granddaughter who loves to drawer, she also loves Chetahs, hence the zebrawood.
I wanted to create something aged looking so I searched. Found this historical society piece and started there.

Made some fixtures and a Maple prototype.

Since I was making, I decided to make one for my grandson, whose favorite color is purple.

…and since I have quite a bit of Spalted maple….made one out of that.

Finished with a couple coats of thinned shellac followed with steel wool and then wax.

Wow… these are fantastic. I always thought about making them… never really got the gumption.

Thanks for all your comments. A fun project that I think worked out well.
The purpleheart and zebrawood proved to be challenging for me, especially with chip outs. In hindsight I’ll use them more as accents in projects moving forward.

I also like the aesthetics of the maple prototype best. Working and finishing maple and walnut are most enjoyable for me.

I do believe the grands will like them.
