Three Kleenex Boxes

Decided to make a few Kleenex boxes, both the cubical and larger box styles. Needed one to give as a present to a neighbor that gave me a large mesquite mantel that became available during a remodel of his home. Hope to get several boards out the donated wood.

DW wants the larger size boxes for our bathroom so that was in the plan. Also had enough lumber to create 2 of the smaller boxes.

Used Maple, Walnut and Padauk 6/4 lumber. Laminated and resawn to make a repetitive pattern. Used miters at the corners that were taped, glued and rolled up into the final box shape.

The large box used hard maple and smaller two boxes used curly maple.

Finish is Deft spray lacquer, satin sheen.

Seems that I have a mental challenge when making the larger box style. Pictures 5 & 6 show the problem. The fix looks pretty good IMO.

Added 1 additional picture after initial post with a less busy background.

The walnut/padauk combination is striking. I like to do dovetail splines in my boxes to dress them up using either walnut or padauk. You have opened my eyes a bit wider to consider greater possibilities. Very well made projects. I don’t see any mistake, just a redesign.

Thanks to all for your comments.

GW:
Yes it did end well! Idea came into my head on way home from the shop.

Jim & OR:
Thanks for the compliments. I really like them too as does DW, most important thing, her. Think the error created a better design.

Super Joe & Kerux:
Walnut and Padauk are in many of my projects, they combine well. Wish the Padauk did not fade to brown, but nothing like it new.
