Project Information

A good friends wife asked me to make a cane for her husband Kenny. After his stroke he needed a cane to help him get around. He is big, and tall, so it needed to be good and sturdy.
I picked out a nice piece of curly maple, and used Koa for some accents. I used a block of Indian Rosewood that was just the size I needed to make the handle. I looked at, and tried out a lot of handles, and liked the looks of the ones that looked sort of like a swoopy T but you have to put the shaft between your first two fingers. To me that seemed very awkward, and with her wanting a "sturdy" cane it would have been even more so. So I picked something that always feels good in the hand and copied that. I stretched everything out so it does not fit me, but hopefully it will fit his oversized hands.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Dick, I did test it with all my weight and it held up. The maple grain runs the same as the shaft.

Beautiful cane. The handle reminded me of a spear gun, sleek and cool.

Yes, it does look a lot like a spear gun.
I hope that Cindy gives it to him early, and does not make me wait until Christmas to see what he thinks of it.
