Boy and Girls,

Another puzzle project and for your sake upon unanimous requests, I was gonna keep this short and sweet, however, while typing, I left a blue steak on the g’rilla as my timer and it eventually turned black and stunk the hell out of SWMBO’s kitchen… so don’t expect “sympathy” from me with my black and blue eyes!

I was paid a compliment by Ron987 about my puzzling nature in Gunny’s Garage, however, I felt a tad deficient when I was quizzed about ”ancient games”… unfortunately the games I played in my youth used to get my face slapped.
Hell, all those years of learning Latin with those sadistic Marist Brothers seemed to have been wasted as the best I could come up with was citing a naked Archimedes streaking the tale of Eureka Stockade, which according to history, has an Australian background and is only 1 and a half centuries old.

Nevertheless, young 987 tracked down this game of Rota which apparently was played by Roman soldiers many years ago during their intermission between crucifixions by drawing/scratching the circle pattern in the dirt and using different coloured stones as pieces… that’s why they had swords… for hard dirt.

I’ll shall leave the tale of his (987’s) intentions a closely guarded secret, however, he did brag about his achievement on Gunny’s Garage forum topic

so if you wanna know, go and sniff it out… it’s circa 15,000+90 posts in (good luck searching).
So, being a hero for trying to save youzall readin’, I tried to egg him on about a project for other members, however, enough time has passed and it is now with egg on my face that I will reveal to youzall the marvels of Rota… take note of my avoidance of calling him a lazy-bugga!

It’s basically like a sadistic game of naughts and crosses between two randy protagonists,

with a guaranteed spanking winner at the end… or the two opponents dying of old age during the same,

sitting.

Here are the rules as written by one of the Roman soldiers after he mastered the typewriter and retold by a senator better at reciting poetry than politics,

and for those that can’t read Latin, here it is in Times Roman on modern papyrus,

included with each game to assist the Philistines.

I have taken 987’s design and input and converted it into one of my “baggied freebies” for semi-general distribution… semi as there is a tad too much effort required per “game” to mass distribute.
The 6mm thick pieces are seated in holes on the 3mm “frame”

so that I can’t ”accidentaly” knock the “board” to dislodge my loosing position.

You have the rules, and my layout… the rest is up to you…
You and your recipients would be pleasantly surprised with this undertaking.

Just don’t give the rules out with a pocket knife and suggest the recipient carve the circle in a dining table and use the salt and pepper shakers as the pieces.

KISS it or complicate it… but make and enjoy it!

Keep safe, jocks... and your jocks, safe!

Impressive effort Alex! I like the looks of this game (but I’m old so what do I know?)...

Might have to fire up my laser for the holidays!

Thanks for the comments. Like the embelishments to the basic that I made.
Nice work as usual and the dialog of the game is great.

Another fine work Duck! I like the games that don’t go into a drawer after the secret is revealed, keeps the mind working.

Games like these are good for keeping the young ‘uns busy in the back seat on road trips, either playing or trying to fish the pieces out from between the car seats. never know, might find some edible delights while at it.

Based on your story, you should include a small Gladius for when the seat cushions are a bit too slippery or one of the players keeps losing.

Looking forward to the next!

Duck, you seem like a nice, calm, reasonable guy.

It’s always that type who do the kinky stuff when the doors close.

Have fun, and Bee careful or ya might get stung.

Well Duck,

I am now able to read most of your posts with understanding!

Well done on the Rota and the nod to Ron987 was very nice of you.

Congrats on your DT3

Gotta give credit to the originator of the idea… You can have the glory… I want the vino royalties!

- splintergroup

Thanks for the suggestion splinter... already hit the design table and the next version will have a sharp removable metal Gladius

so the winner can tattoo the results into the losers chest… just goes to show XXX is the winner! What would mum have said if she saw XXX blazoned across your chest?

I don’t believe in hiding behind closed doors… I leave my front door wide open and that’s why the cops keep “institutionalising” me,

Knew that Latin to English translator wasn’t wasted.

Though as Claudef pointed out to me, it’s grammar translating engine needs a tad refining,

... or maybe Big Julie just had too much vino.

Thanks Mads... and a Merry Christmas and a Happier Next Year (hopefully C19 in worldwide remission) 2 U and yours.

Should give it a try… more involved than it seems, especially when you include rules like “diameter unaccepted’... buggers up the centre hogs.

Thank you. Happy new year back.
Yes that grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr C19, now O omicron is exploding here, our hospitals are under pressure, right now we have only ten respirator beds left in the country, so I better not get it. Will have my third vaccine Monday, that should keep me relatively safe if I get it, so I hope I can wait until after Monday at least… Smiles.
