I thought I’d make another wooden pocket knife except this time I wanted to try making one with a swing guard. This knife is a wooden replica of a RR1326. It’s only 3.5 inches closed and 6.25 inches open. I used Bodark heartwood that is less than 10 years old for the spacers. I used Bodark sapwood from the same tree for everything else representing the stainless steel parts. For the scales I also used Bodark, but this wood came from underneath a home built in 1886. It was being used as a pier and is much darker than the heartwood from a younger tree.

The Bodark is very hard and sturdy so it works perfectly for the springs.

I used blonde shellac for the finish.

The action is perfect. The springs work great. It snaps open, locks well, snaps shut and the swing guard is snug when open or closed. It really turned out better than I thought it would since I’ve never made one with a swing guard. I posted photos of mine next to the real thing above.

Nice. I have always liked those wooden pocket knives.
