14" Bowl

This is a recent turning I made from Big Leaf Maple I salvaged from a tree on my property. The 5” x 14” blank sat in my shop for 3 or 4 years so it was thoroughly dry. The finish is Mahoney’s walnut oil and micro crystalized wax.
I’m not sure what it would be used for; possibly proofing bread dough?

Nice bowl Les. This Big leaf Maple has some wild grain and. with the spalting even better. Sur make a super size candy bowl.

Thanks guys. Candy is a good idea but that would be a years supply for me.

Tony, I’m lucky enough to have 14 acres with at least a dozen very large Maples, Alders, Doug Firs, Cedar (two kinds), Dog wood and others. One Maple measures 33’ in circumference and the state record is 36’, but it is hollow in the center… you can stand inside. Some day it will come down and I’ll have a lot more wood.
