Apothecary Cabinet

I made this for my wife after showing it to her in an issue of Wood magazine. She loves cabinets with lots of drawers to stash heaven knows what. It was a fun build and lots of learning along the way.
The carcass is plywood and the outer wood surfaces are Cherry. The drawers across the top and down the middle are single and the others are doubles made to appear as singles. The finish is four coats of clear Danish Oil.
She was VERY happy when I completed it, being that I initially showed her the magazine issue when it arrived in the mail…October 1999. I finished it for her in Christmas of 2019. I’ve gotten better with my delivery timelines.
This is my largest build if I don’t count the jungle gym I made for the kids. lol

Nice job. From the first couple of pics, it looks like the drawers along the side are double wide? If so, you did a great job of making them look exactly like the single width drawers.

Hi Tony~! Yes, those drawers are double. I was going to stray from the plan by adding additional carcass dividers to make all of the drawers singles, but my wife liked it “as is”. Good plan since she had some larger items that would not have fit into the smaller drawer spaces.
Thanks so much~!

Nice job on the double wide drawers appearing as single wide. I’m doing a similar technique on my current project (chest of drawers). Anyway, nice work Andy. Your project looks great. Glad the wife was happy with the results…

PS – Congrats on Top 3.

I love Apothecaries. They just look so darn useful, full of purpose. This is a nice one.

That Gummy Cherry you had in the pic looks world class. I love Gummy Cherry as much as I do Apothecaries. :-)

Just need to echo others… did an outstanding job hiding the double drawers. I love these cabinets but to me, the only way to make them truly useful is to have larger double drawers like you did. Curious how you pulled it off…...did you just router 2 groves in each face or something else?
Very well done.

Thanks Mike~! Actually, all of the drawers have the same front face piece. On the wide drawers are two of the same face pieces separated by a spacer to resemble the trim separating the other drawers. I think it did well to create the illusion of 25 individual drawers. I hope that answered your question.

Nice job! My father was a pharmacist so you had me as soon as I saw apothecary. Very nicely crafted.
