Coleman Lantern box

So I found similar boxes online but most that I’ve seen just have the inside painted green & have a single handle on top that doesn’t match the traditional Coleman look.

I made mine out of 1/2 poplar sanded plywood. The inside is finished with 2 coats of spar polyurethane and buffed smooth, the exterior is painted with Rust-olium’s professional hunter green enamel spray paint. I got the sticker on ebay for like 2 bucks & the hardware is sold in store at the home depot.

The hardest part of this project is making sure the dimensions are correct for your particular lantern. There are many variables including the base size, the fold down handle, the knobs, the cap, the brim, the nut on top. Its easy to make a mistake when measuring your lantern due to its odd shape.

That’s a great job on the carrying case jackrabbit. Nicely detailed and looks almost store bought. My friend built one with some ugly plywood, does the job but not nearly as nice as yours. I’ll have to show him this and tease him. Nice touch with the sticker.

Brings back memories!

My Dad built the same thing back in the 60’s for our lantern used for camping. It had a piece of 1” “yellow” foam that would be wrapped around the lantern, cutouts made for the handle hoop which would then hold the foam in place while it was slid into the box. A trap door in the lid kept the spare mantles and accessories.

Looks great!, the decal is the gilding 8^)

Looks like it’s from the factory…but better than any,” factory built” today…Maybe in the old days, don’t know…

Anyway…great job on that…

That’s great. I need to build one like it for my lantern. I saw it in the attic the other day after I kicked it over.
