Project Information

Boy and Girls,

This project was never intended to be published as I prefer not to post laser work that is a tad harder to replicate using "conventional means" by those not as lazy as me.

Nevertheless, if you chose large dimensions, this could readily be done on a scroll saw. While scrolling creates some beautiful "ornaments", there is nothing better than to present someone with a creation that can exercise their brain other than their eyes on a wall hanging dust collector.

I decided to publish this project if for no other reason than to point members to a great WEB based jigsaw generator that can be customised from an easy 1 piece jigsaw to as complex as your evil mind can devise. It lets you create either a square or a hex shaped jijsaw… I'll let you have a guess as to which I used… a close look at the name of this project may provide a clue.
If you surf to the link and play a few "what ifs", you might just get tempted… even if it's just with a few pieces on a large scale.

crowie, this would be ideal to use up some of those self adhesive A4 paper (for scrolling)… and don't give me the crap about I don't have a scroller… our clodhopper (sorry, cloghopper) Dutchman buddy to the rescue.

Now that I've started, oh c'mon, you didn't expect me to finish here… I might as well spruik the results from this undertaking… I'l tri 2 kipit shrt.,… see I've already started with the typing.

I originally planned to create miniatures for freebie distribution, however, it did become a tad difficult to read the animal engravings on them,

Decided to upscale and package it as a family present in a box (gallery pic #6) using themes: -
  • Animals for the kids.
  • Cats for mum.
  • Girlies for dad, grandpa, the uncle and the older boy(s).

Turned out to be a gratefully accepted entertainment piece during C19 lockdown in regional Victoria.

This puzzle can be further complicated by trying to solve it upside down,

As with all my puzzles, I keep a full set for myself and the cabinet is getting very crowded…

I might have to abandon my puzzles temporarily and start on a new cabinet.

No supplementary video or formal apology will be forthcoming for this post.

Keep safe, jocks... and your jocks, safe!

LBD, your at it again. Interesting puzzle. Now to turn up the heat you could even make the little shapes inside cut to double the number of pieces.

I like this jigsaw puzzle Alex, but not for me to attempt on the scrollsaw. Your laser is so much neater!
A big well done for this one Ducky.

Another very cool puzzle to drive your friends crazy. I'm almost done with a puzzle I've been working on. I have to search LJ's archives to see if anyone has done a review on a laser or CNC in my price range. They keep calling out to me.

Sorry Boys and Girls, I haven't been ignoring the kind comments or even pottzy's dig into my ribs… and I don't mean baby, or even sashimi (another story), but I've been involved with a gang of neurologists debating what part of my brain to manipulate in an attempt to bring a modicum of sanity into the lives of people that don't have the luxury to both social and un-social distance from me.

For those that don't understand duck speak, I've had doctors' appointments that were recommended not to be ignored.

The wing is being supported by a cask-o-vino so let me make up to the "short" project details by a prolonged user comment reply…

I will consider to buy a laser.

You don't need one Dutchy... I need one to try to keep up with you.

Sounds like a good puzzle… A fortune cookie with the missing note… let the recipient puzzle over the missing item.

Gee I can't share code as I'm a CNC ignoramus, however, can make PDF's and Inkscape equivalent (CorelDraw) files available… and of course the SketchUp.

Just Russian Doll them pottzy... I can have fun dismantling them.

Your bowling has slowed down? Sore pitching arm or the house too small to store?
I ll take a girly one Alex….

Unfiortunately I have too many letcherous friends… They were reserved even before I closed the first Sketchup design file.

Love the idea… Already in my memory banks where alcohol cannot affect it. Will need to upscale (and fewer pieces) to make the silhouette cutouts viable. At least the generator will make the jigsaw part easy.

Using fewer pieces and a larger scale would produce a neat little kiddies gift… Also scrolling would permit a picture to be "glued" on (you should be a master by now)... I believe large jigsaws on a scroll are quite viable… ask maj.

I'm no engineer… in fact I thought that soldering was enlisting in the part time army.

Nevertheless if you are that way inclined, there are many plans on the Internet to build yourself a high end laser at a budget price… I can only assume the same holds for CNC's… I've heard from a friend of a friend who has a friendly friend that built his own 3D printer based on some sort of laser schematics. But then again that's hearsay and I have been known to be wrong.

Nice puzzles Ducky, Marjanna thinks that is something I should try. I think I'll leave it to the people who have the laser cutters.
Very well done by you.

If you have a scroller (Otto or Manwell) you can pick a large sized puzzle with fewer pieces. Your limitation is the size of your printer… though prints can be split over multi A4.

The main purpose of the post was to make people aware of the customisable jigsaw generator. The square/rectangular one should be easy… especially if you limit it to 1 piece… great gag present.
