Spalted Maple, 7 1/2” x 3 3/4”,
Friction Polish.
MEYSPRING Pacific Blue Epoxy Resin Color Pigment for the branch hole that gave me grief.

Picture of the log the day we cut it up. That branch where the arrow is pointing… I told my wife
that day… that knot is going to cause problems down the road. LOL

Now that there is funny. I should be able to get or close to 30 of them. I’ll keep going at it.

Very nice, all your bowls are so attractive. I’m going to have to start looking at free downed logs a little more closely. Most everything I try to turn that I find is just boring wood. I never seem to find anything that looks like the wood in your projects.

Thank you for your encouragement. All of the spalted maple I’m using now… the tree was felled this time last year. I took about 10 logs about 24 inches long thereabouts and put them beside and behind the garage. Straight up and down. Anchor sealed the tops to slow up checking. Then about April this year, we started cutting them up. The spalting had took effect. I did that because Maple as you say, can be boring unless you know you’ve got some fiddle back or other fancy swirl going on in the wood. Started cutting them up into blanks and anchor sealed the ends. Some I started roughing out. Now I’m at the point of roughing out… and now finishing some the bowls… its been 3 months since the first rough outs… and they are dry enough to finish. In the mean time I was given a Black Walnut (big) that has been down for 3 years. Been trying to cut that one up into blanks.
So, I’ve been busy. And… I do have a job on top of it all.
