Needed a two drawer file cabinet that would fit under a desk top. Wanted it to have a pull out writing surface.
The stiles, rails and the pull out top are American Cherry. The panels are birds eye maple over 1/4 MDF. The drawers are clear white pine.
Size: 18” W x 28” H x 27 Deep
The Veneer is from: Veneer Supplies.com (Joe Woodworker)
The “T” slides from Kregtool.com
The drawer slides are Accuride CB4034
The file frames are from Lee Valley
The exterior finish is Pettit’s Captains Varnish, the drawers are sealed with water based Minwax Polycrylic .
The pull out top is guided by two Kreg Mini Traks let into its bottom. Six 1/4-20 stainless machine screws heads protrude up from the cabinet to accept the tracks. The tracks run on nylon washers. I drilled and tapped the wood cabinet top, then saturated the wooden threads with CA glue and ran the tap through one more time. This arrangement allowed adjustments, a nut and washer below, locked it up and made it all strong enough to allow lifting of the cabinet from the top.

Love the bird’s-eye maple too, and that is indeed a clever slide mechanism.
