50yrs ago this coming December, my wife (then girl friend) gave me a bone, hand carved, chess set. It only took me 50yrs to make a table. My initial intent was to make it entirely from walnut but lumber prices dictated ash for the cabriole legs. Joinery is loose M&T, the drawers are mitered with dovetail splines
The chess squares are 2 1/4” square x 1 1/4” thick. The squares were then inset into the table. The last picture shows the Kings and the detail of the unknown artist that carved them.

Great work on the table and certainly a nice playing field for those cool pieces.

Beautiful table and truly unique chess pieces. A total winner.
