African Black Limba - Simple Bench Build

I saw a YouTube video for an easy-to-build bench project using 2×4’s and 2×6’s. However, I had some very colorful 8/4 Black Limba that I wanted to use. I modified the design a bit to accommodate my hardwood sizes.

The limba bench seat is a slip matched cut from a lumber board originally measuring 1.75” x 7.5” x 168”.

I used 1 15/16” x 1 15/16” Black Limba squares to make the legs.

Here the original video I based my build off of, ””The $15 15 Minute Bench” by The Rehab Life.

In keeping with the simple theme, I used Minwax Antique Oil Finish on the seat- simple to use and looks pretty sharp. To make the seat pop a little more, I did a less-shiny wax finish on the square limba legs.

The bench is all straight cuts so can be done in 15 minutes (not including finishing) if you’re reasonably handy. However, Black Limba lumber costs a lot more than 2×4’s. Heck, even using the 2x’s, the wood cost is probably more like $25 in 2021 (don’t even get me started).

Easy and elegant! This was a fun project.

Thanks!

Steve

Very attractive piece. I would have no problem parking my buns on that beautiful wood.
Well done.

Thanks so much – at the moment it is unceremoniously parked in my garage but I do use it a lot!
