Whittling Little Folk

This was my first time trying to do some whittling. On vacation I always like to do something with my hands. In the past I did some chipcarving. But personally I find this a little old fangled, and therefor I would do something different. Something that requires few tools. I bought a book:

and tried it. I used basswood.

I had to throw a few away but in the end I managed to make thirteen. At home they were painted and now you can see the results.

Thanks for watching. All comments are appreciated.

Wow… They are incredible Dutchy... you never cease to amaze me.

So… Who’s been a busy little Dutchman... Not you… only 13, was it just a weekend vacation… where is the village for them… the houses, furniture, pets, and of course their model cars? Maybe next time go away for 4 days.

They are great Dutchy, you are a very talented man, however I am worried that you may not be enjoying your vacations as you should be.

Very cute! I’ve been thinking what woodworking I could do when out camping – this sure looks fun although I’m not sure I have the 3 dimension talent.

Barb, some sort of carving is nice for camping. I generally carry an in-progress birb or fish and a knife with me everywhere now. If I’m stuck waiting somewhere that I can make shavings without upsetting people (most parking lots are fine), I’ll start whittling away the bits that are superfluous.

I’ve added the book Jan mentioned to my shopping list though. I might decide little humans are a good thing to carve.

I had the same thoughts, but with the mentioned book it was almost no trouble to do it.

Well done Jan. I try this whittling stuff once and only managed to cut my fingers to pieces. You certainly amaze me with all the talent you have.

Well done. I, like Brian, only have scars to show for my carvings.

These are all great looking! Every one I looked at made me smile! I’ll come back here if I’m feeling depressed! LOL!
