I’m building a box and needed a handle to tote it and remembered a YouTube video by who I can’t remember that I made a template from.
Jim Jakosh triggered my memory of this technique when he made a few cool handles for his router and lathe chuck boxes.

This handle/pull is made from mahogany and white oak.

Here are some of the process photos.

Drawing the shape of the opening and arch of the top of the handle.

After cutting out the shape of the inside and top of the handle I draw the shape for the sides on the top that has to be removed.

A lot of filing and sanding is required.

If your going make a few of these it’s a good idea to make a template of the size you’ll need. This one was for some doors I made for cabinet stands for my large power tools.

It’s finished with 5 coats of wipe-on ploy sanded with Mirka 360X, 1500X, and 2500X
sanding pads and Minwax Paste Finishing Wax.

Thanks for visiting.

I wish you had done this project a couple of weeks ago when I needed a cool handle design for a project I was working on. Perfect combination of wood species. Really nice.

Excellent James!

I’d be tempted to “template up” if I was going to try more that a few of those. The sanding looks just too grueling 8^)
Nice way to make something useful from small bits!

Thanks Splinter.
Now that I think of it sanding was a bear. I had to walk away from it and rest my fingers several times.

Mahogany is a nice wood to work with. It’s only 1070 LBf on the Janka hardness scale.

Simply beautiful…

Doesn’t take much to really add style to a project…This is a good one…

Great look…
