Friend in Key West was given these coasters as a thank you for a visit. 4” square slate with a wire stand. The name is the house name, the eagle has to do with location. Laser engraved on my Ortur Master Engraver 2. Key fobs were added as a second. The font was Berkshire Swash.

Thanks for the comments. Making 8 of them got a bit boring, but also fun to see it come out as well as it did.

These are really nice. I want to ask- slate, as in stone? That CNC business is looking more inviting all the time, in any event.

Did you use any clear coat? I clear coat mine with a flat (matte) poly spray and the images come out so much better than using nothing, especially when I burn photo’s into slate. I use the baking soda trick on wood. I tried the Kenny hack but I didn’t like how it darkened the wood.

Yes slate as in stone. easy to find in various shapes and thicknesses. Price similar to good hardwood. This is laser engraved not CNC. Similar design and software programs for both.

No clear coat. Have not tried that. I wondered how clear coat would last on a coaster that was actually used. Temperature changes as cold items were on and off the coaster, same with a hot mug of coffee. Would have to test that and did not have the time. Also the slate does not have a smooth surface, ridges that would abraid easily. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Relatively new to the laser use.

Cool 987...

Lucky I don’t come visiting as you may have trouble fitting Churchill on 1 line.

Way your buddy just nice or doesn’t he spell it as “AG J ILA”?

PS. you could’ve added some chain on those fobs… unless they’re ground fobs.

Good to hear your laser has feelings!

OK, thanks. I was trying to visualize a nice Whiteside bit gradually going dull over the course of the work. 8^D
