Looks like you’re fixin’ to hit somethin’!

Are you making them for sale?

I’ve given many away and sold a few. Always willing to discuss someone’s need for one. After i get the blanks done, i’ve found that they are something that i can work on in the evenings and be relatively quiet and not disturb the neighbors by running a planer at 9 pm. lol. Always looking for feedback on them as a newbie / hobbiest, self-taught outside of the YouTube realm, i need all the help i can get.

That’s a great idea – to make some things repetitively that don’t take much time. I think that when you’ve made 10, 20 or 100 of something, some kind of experiencial knowledge grows on you.

Why did the song lyrics just hit me? “If I had a hammer… I’d hammer in the morning…”

I’ve made one hanmer handle for a steel hammer and one normally-handled mallet, so you’ve got me beat for experience, but I used a Shinto rasp and some curved scrapers. I had a blade (only) for the Veritas Chair Devil with 1 1/4 diameter and also had the Pax Concave Scrapers.

Seems like I used some straight scrapers too… can’t remember.

And sandpaper.

Still, it took a long time. Slow work for me.

I originally started with my spoke shave and lots of sanding, these i made the tenons on the lathe and then used my rigid belt/spindle sander to get the contours and now just have to do a little by hand sanding and maybe some touch up with the ROS and final.. i’m getting there.

And sandpaper.

Still, it took a long time. Slow work for me.

Maybe you should have nailed it rather than glue!
Did that also fall off the back of the ute? Put it in the washing machine to fix it….

Sorry Over’ww, running “in joke”.

Welcome to LJ…

Now all you need to do is grow a few arms… I’m sure there’ll be a LJ member that can give advice on that… I normally would, but I’ll give someone else the opportunity.

all good sir. i’m a wise cracker myself when the opportunity arises. These are just the latest ones i’ve made. i have a semi failure that i use cause i wouldn’t let anyone have that lil ugly one. plus my first thru maybe 4 that i kept as i was working on the design. overall i’m pleased they’re pretty good whackers.
