Blown Big Block Ford Street Rod with a Peterbilt twist.

This is my Lockdown Stay at Home Isolation Orders project/challenge.

The original orders were extended from a fortnight to three weeks but now we are in week four.

It’s scratch built with inspiration from a couple of Hot Rod Photos off the internet, taking well over 50 hours.

Dimensions – 16” [410mm] Long; 6.5” [170mm] High; 7.5”b[190mm] Wide plus the rear wheels!

Chassis – Red Gum
Engine – TallowWood
Radiator – Merbau
Blower – Cypress Pine with Zebra Front
Cab Sides – Camphor Laurel
Cab Roof – laminated Blackheart Sassafras
Cab Back – Blackheart Sassafras
Firewall – Red Gum
Quilted Seats – Walnut
Centre Console – Red Gum
Dash Panel & Glovebox – Blackheart Sassafras with Merbau Tacho
Cockpit has homemade “T-Bar Auto Shifter” & “Hand Brake Lever”, along with the Accelerator Pedal & Brake Pedal.
Rear Tray – Blackheart Sassafras with Walnut sides
Petrol/Fuel Tank – Silky Oak with Spotted Gum bands [4 ¾” by 1 ¾” dia made using a holesaw]
Rear Bumper bar – Red Lancewood
Exhaust – Tassie Oak dowel with bead ends
Wheels – TallowWood

Front Wheels – 1 7/8” wide by 2.5” dia TallowWood [made using a holesaw and forstner bit]
Rear Wheels – 2 ¾” wide by 3 ¾” dia TallowWood [made using a holesaw and forstner bit]
Shop bought headlights, extra front lights, taillights, axle pegs, and steering wheel
The Ford Logo –Lazer cut courteous of Alex, aka LBD
Finish – Homemade Wipe-On-Poly of a mixture of 30% Tung Oil, 30% Mineral Turps, 40% Clear Satin Polyurethane.
The” Ford”, “Ford V8” logos as well as the “Peterbilt” logo are all lapel pins.

While being in a lockdown isolation is no fun, so this Ford Street Rod build was heaps fun being a cross between a C Cab and a T-Bucket with a lot extra detailing and attitude.
Man, the loud pedal could surely get me into trouble but wow, the rush!

WAY! WAY!! WAY!!! CUTE!!!!
You know I love this roof style and to add it to a shorty pick up is just Dynamite !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also like the last 4 pictures showing the insides, well done.
I just know you had to have a ball figuring this HOT ROD out.

Another cool build crowie... Looks like the ”C19” lockup is doing you better than any ”Jail” lockup did for me!

..... off the internet, taking well over 50 hours…..
- crowie

Hell, I have trouble maintaing just a 10 hour internet connection…. suggest you use a quicker search engine.

.....
Rear Wheels – 2 ¾” wide by 3 ¾” dia TallowWood.....
- crowie

I’d replace that TallowWood with IronBark

looks like it’s not far from 3 punctures…

Thank you Alex,
The tallowwood was old recycled timber a builder from gave me.
All the rest was offcuts for my stash for repurposing.
Also, thank you the Internet search information but I should have been clearer; it was the build that took over 50 hours not my time wasted on the browsing.

If I hear Stuart Little has been busted in the Blue Mts I am coming looking for you!

BTW a couple of muffler extension pipes are in order The cost of a tyre that size is about $900 you know!

Funny Fact:-

in the Goodyear Racing catalog, $917 per tire. Each one is expected to last eight runs, or a bit more than 1.5 miles.

Plus a pair of earplugs for your little blue smurf please !

Absolutely Bruce, It was a heap of fun nutting it out on the go, after starting with the sides of cab somewhat based on the style of the blue HotRod in the Internet photo. From their it was keeping busy adding as much deal as I could, thank you.

Rob, I just paid $950 for 4 tyres for my Ford XR6 Falcon; the last set lasted 2.5yrs.
On the side pipes; a bloke in the USA I knew had a Cobra with them and YES EAR PLUGS were very necessary.

Very nice, Peter! Paint it red and you’d be getting speeding tickets while parked!

The timber is way too pretty to paint Dave, but on the ticket side; downunder we’d get a tickets for NO MUDGUARDS/FENDERS plus the LOUD EXHAUST!!

Sweet build, looks like a great rat rod. Sounds like you will be receiving 2 tickets. But worth it.
