Spice Cabinet

This cabinet was my very first attempt at a project of this caliber. Although I know how to use basic shop tools like planers and table-saws and drill-presses, and all the toys I wish I had, I had a customer who had seen some of my little wood-working projects over the years (which are rustic, at best) She seemed confident that even though i don’t have a shop, I could build what she wanted. So I went all-in, and put my designing skills to work. I started with the basic dimensions, but as the design came together, all the measurements changed. Lol! That’s the beauty of having a customer that knows you are not a professional… I did all of the miter cuts by hand and it took me a lot of work to make them look right. I didn’t realize that those pains are normal when working without a compound miter saw. The most fun part about this project is that I didn’t even know what the back was gonna be made of until after I had built the frame and shelves. I didn’t know what the windows were gonna be made of until I had the wooden door frames built. I completely improvised the front and back of this cabinet, and I couldn’t be any happier with the result. And the customer was so happy because she was able to fill it with her spices, which helps her cook amazing meals, which I try to stop in for, at least once a week, because the customer is my Mom, and she inspired me to build this first cabinet, and I ‘ve been able to build and sell 4 of them in 5 months…since then..

Very nice design! The cabinet looks great. It’s wonderful to have a cheerleader to encourage us to stretch our abilities and reach our goals. Keep up the good work!

Nicely done! If the client is happy and the check cleared it must be right!
