Peterbilt 357 for a young trucker

Another grandson from my daughter was born during the 2nd half of June. We didn’t know beforehand whether it would be a boy or a girl. After being blessed with a boy grandpa took to the workshop to build another truck.

The idea for this truck started a while back with downloads of blue prints with prof Google’s assistance. That was translated into a Sketchup plan. With the arrival of my grandson this plan became a truck. In the end there are some variations from the plan.

My drill press did lathe duty to make the airhorns and that worked quite well for me.

The cargo was made up scrap wood from previous projects. I made up some pallets and the cargo was glued to them. The pallets are held in place with dowels, but the cargo can be unloaded to make space for other cargo the young trucker would like to load.

I know the pallets are not in the same scale as the ruck, but then again this is a toy and not a model. I like to make my toys realistic looking, but they must be able to stand up to some play from the young trucker. To that end I reinforce joints with dowels.

I finished a Mack truck a little while earlier for a grandson from my son that is due to be born in Sept.

A few picks from different angles

I had a lot of fun building these two trucks.

Thanks for taking a look and as always comments are welcome.

Beautifully crafted, great wood selections. You are a very proud grandpa, and it shows.

very nice lumber combo and great all around detail – for some reason the “pinned” pallets caught my eye, beats trying to tie them down

What a beautiful truck, but as a Peterbilt I’m bios.
The mix of timbers, the detailing and the finish are excellent just like the Peterbilt Moto “Class Pays”.
The Peterbilt mudflaps are extra cool!
Very well done George, top marks!

Another beautiful build!!!
I like to look back and see what other thing a poster builds and had missed your last beautiful truck.
I think we need just a few more pictures, wouldn’t want to miss any details. LOL
I have never been able to figure how some can build a beautiful model and then only give us one picture of it.

You are welcome to use what you can of the SU. In the end there were some deviations in the build from the SU drawings.
