This is a simple box made of 1/2” Baltic birch plywood, wrapped in 1/4” white birch hardwood. The ribbon is made of cherry in the middle with mahogany on the outer layers. This is the first ribbon box I have scrolled.

Very nice! I have made a lot of “Bow Boxes”, and sold them all but none as complex as yours. Great job!

Nice! Love the ribbon. I too would like to see how it was done.

“Simple box”! LOL

Outstanding work! Lots of practice to get that steady with a scroll saw!

This really is an easy build. Look for the Popular Woodworking “Bow Box” plan. The plan walks you through the process. All it amounts to is a steady hand, followed by sanding, to make the ribbon pop out!

My hands shake too much for that. Pushing a rectangle is within my grasp, but smooth, fine control isn’t. :(

Woodman1 I hope you don’t mind. I did a blog on the bow-making process in 2013. You can find it “here”: https://www.lumberjocks.com/Lenny/blog/35124

Really nice job.

Everytime I see one of these i say I need to make one.
I’ve been putting it off for a stupidly long time – I’ve actually got Lenny’s build bookmarked in the todo list.

If anyone is thinking of trying one of these, do it. Even if you think you can’t cut straight enough, there isn’t a straight enough piece for anyone to know different.
