Project Information

The first owl stick, I thought was cool, but, kind of thought I'd like to try again…

This one came out alright. I like it. One thing, I wish I had better walking sticks with more branching at the top, but I use what I have. This stick is just that, a stick I had laying around.

The owl is made out of Yew, some I was lucky to come across years past. Nice and dry. Man that Yew is hard.
Cool swerling grain. I like that.

Made using rotary tools. This one I sanded. The last one I did not. Thought it would resemble the soft feathers of an owl better. The sanded one shows off the wood better.

This one I painted on, don't normally do that but it was needed. Added a little more paint to the prior one too.

Hope you enjoy…

Here's the chunk I started with.

Couple of other shots…

He is just fantastic. He has a very mystical look to him. Very Celtic looking. I could see him on Merlin's walking staff.

I think they are both well done. That wood looks kind of like burl with the grain going in all directions.

Excellent job all around with that owl. Lots of personality seeping through on the face and the wood seems a perfect choice for the grain effect.

Any Shaman would be proud to wield that and taunt the non-believers 8^)

Oh I LOVE HIM! He's incredible. Nicely executed! Is he for sale? Or trade? Good to see you working on things. I've been distracted with other interests but need to get back into the wood workshop.

Hope you find calm time to enjoy your shop…It can be good for some inner conversations…Sometimes it says now is not the time to be playing in the shop, come back when you are ready…My best to you and Michael…Later…

Kinda looks like a Sawwhet owl to me. Smallest of the owl clan and lives in underground burrows. To me, the absolute cutest of the breed, about the size of a robin.

Keep up the good work. Since owl numbers are shrinking, seeing a couple more of them is kinda nice. Now for the ultimate challenge: make one that can lay an egg. (grin)

Thanks Paul…I definately moddeled the carving off a Saw-whet owl. The wood called for it…

I think they are the coolest owls too…
