For the second year in a row, one of our local bear critters decided to make a snack out of our bird feeders. Figured if this is going to keep happening, I might as well learn how to make them myself instead of buying them. This is my first go at it.

Nice bear I mean bird feeder Buster! Maybe you should make a pic-a-nic basket for the bear?

Looks great Buster! I’m all for making your own feeders! Much better looking than those plastic ones.

Nice one Buster. I too make these and many have become a casualty of the bears. Tip: if you extend the left and right on the tray, you can put a dowel for them to perch on along the front and back. Won’t help with the bears, (or squirrels) but the birds like it!

Another fine job by BusterB! Nice feeder, Dude. I get lots of squirrels at mine, and I shoot them and eat them. If you go this route, please let me know and I’ll make the trek down there and invite myself for a good steak feed. Thanks for posting, buddy, it’s a great looking feeder.

I very much like your design. Sure wish I could find 4/4 cedar like that in my area. All we’ve got here is fence pickets.

Bears do not like wood, only plastic. Yea right. Much better looking than the plastic ones any day. Nice work Mr. B.

Very nice feeder, Buster. If you neighbors see it, you’ll be in production!!

Cheers, Jim

ps..Are you near the Bristol Dragway? Our Eastern meet of our Monte Carol club is there in August and I’m thinking of making the trip. If you are near I’d stop in to say hi and meet you in person!

Jeffswildwood- thank you sir. I like the input!!! Version two may just have to include that dowel.

Jeff- thank you buddy. Wife does battle with the squirrels daily…she peppers them with a bb gun and two come to take it’s place. Expect her to escalate the conflict any day now. Would be a honor to feed you sir.

L2L- thank you sir. Ummm obviously that whole professional thing is a fluke …lol

Burlybob- thank you sir. I lucked up on this cedar, guy traded it to me for building him a cedar presentation box.

Dave- thank you sir. They killed a metal one last year so they don’t seem to care what the snack is wrapped in…lol.

Jim- thank you sir. Bristol is about 3 and a half hours away. Would be a hoot having you stop by. Ahhh maybe someday I will get to meet quite a few of you guys in person…
