Since I do a bit of watercolor and acrylic paintings, most of which I gift to others, I am always on the lookout for suitable frames. I have a supply of a dozen or so frames at the moment which I picked up at yard sales, thrift stores, etc.

I also save up interesting scrap pieces & cut-offs from my various woodworking projects. Every once in a while between projects or for a change of pace, I’ll select a frame, then pour my interesting scrap pieces out on the bench and look the pieces over to see if ‘inspiration’ hits. It usually does given enough time and if I need a change of pace badly enough. I’ve made quite a few and posted a some on Lumberjocks when I think of it.

Depending on my mood, my name for these is either ‘Wood Sculpture’ (kind of pretentious sounding, eh?), or ‘3-dimensional painting’.

I suppose you might call this style ‘Abstract’, Impressionist’, or just ‘Needs Mental Help’. They’re fun nonetheless!

This is another one, which I call ‘Over The River And Through The Woods.’. There’s nothing very special about it, just trying to use up some interesting bits and making a couple more to end up with something interesting if of questionable value. At least my wife likes it!

I like the pig…. unless it’s a dog. (This isn’t sounding right). The creature crossing the bridge is the one I mean.

Yes, that’s supposed to be a pig – sort of ‘when pigs fly’ sort of reference. Glad you liked the little guy.

Nice! And if you had fun making it, and the wife likes it, that’s a win all around! Well done.

My Whimsy meter is clacking like a swiss watch, nice piece.

That pig needs a perm on it’s tail, not near curly enough. But darned if it isn’t flying. :-)

Love the art form.

Best I could do carving a tail was to make it curve – and that was a challenge! A curled corkscrew tail was out of the question. Glad you like the piece. It’s growing on me too.
