My Throne

Everyone is a king or queen in their own right and deserves a throne … so I made one for myself:) I am the king of my castle! I wanted to show my wife that I weild power and authority. She saw me on my throne and said “ya ya ya but be sure to sell it after you play with it” :(

Wood used is Acacia except for the back brace which is Walnut. Acacia seems to snap when I bend it. Legs to seat is a maloof joint. Legs Head rest to back brace and back brace to seat are dowelled mortise and tenon. Backbrace is made by bent lamination. Transition block from armrest to legs were screwed on since it was end grain. Finishing for now is just 1 layer of linseed oil. I will be applying 5 layers of wipe-on satin poly… if I’m free next week.

Very nice. But how comfortable is it? It looks comfortable. Did you contour it for your spine and behind or was it fitted for someone else?

FLW designed great looking furniture … that you couldn’t sit on comfortably for long.

That back looks very lumbar supportive and flexible.

Outstanding. Now if you can just make five more identical ones so SWMBO can have a set to go with the dining room table on your melon (honey, do) list …

beautiful chair love the sculpting on the arms and seat.the only thing i would change is how the back is topped off, just doesn’t seem to fit the overall look of the chair. great craftsmanship.

Great looking chair. If you make more like Madmark2 said, make sure to cut the legs a couple of inches shorter. The King needs to sit above his subjects.

A cross between “Vikings” and Sam Maloof. I like, but alas does it sit well for anyone. Beauty lies in the fit when it comes to chairs, at least for me.

I think you married up. Yours sounds a lot like mine, and I know I married up. The ya ya ya made me laugh.

Very comfortable especially the lumbar support which keeps your sitting form correct. It’s just a standard template I found. I usually sit on it for around an hour to spot my wife during her aerial sports practices (held in my workshop). I have L4-L5 disc degeneration so I’m very choosy on my shoes and chairs. The only thing that beats it is a well-cushioned seat.

I’ve been looking on different designs to top it off. My wife’s request is to just remove the headrest and just extend the back brace. Suggestions and designs will be highly appreciated.

Put a 3” horizontal round on the top that hits the back of your neck, curved to front.

it just needs too be more sculptural like the chair itself.the top just fights with the chair.the chair is beautiful, the top doesn’t work.imho!

Sorry, more of a visual guy. Big favor, can you sketch it for me? Trying really hard to avoid it looking like a phallus:)

I’ve been trying several headrest designs but it always looks like a phallus in the end because of the back splat/shaft:( I’d highly appreciate a sketch recommendation.
