This clock is based on a plan by Chris Becksvoort in Fine Woodworking. The plans are available for free here.

I built this using a single board of cherry that had been air drying for about 12 years. I installed a simple quartz movement, despite Becksvoort’s mocking comments in the plans! I used a movement with no sounds and no pendulum.

My son made the steel hanger and the copper hooks and latches for the doors:

This was a fun piece to build. So much fun, that I decided to build a second one. This one is in our kitchen. I wanted it to have a more “rustic” look. I built this one from this pine board:

There is a picture of a similar clock in a book by Thos. Moser. His has no knobs on the doors, and I like the resulting cleaner lines. Here are some photos of the pine clock:

And here’s one last photo showing the demon inside:

Wonderful builds X 2 Chuck. Can’t say which version I like the best, both are true winners.

Great link on that Becksvoort freebie plan too. I’m sure you’ll see some duplicates.

Well done. I’ve always like the design of the Shaker wall clock.

Have your say...
