My son asked me to build a custom bench for his 3 kids to use while all brushing their teeth at the sink at the same time. He asked for a bench that was 39 inches long, 12 inches wide and 13 inches in height. He wanted it painted dark brown.

The legs are 1.5×1.5” and I ripped them from a 2×4. The rest of the bench is made of pine 1×4’s.

I used mortise and tenon joints at the legs. I used Rockler steel table top fasteners to let the top move with changes in temperature and humidity.

It is a pretty sturdy bench. If it gets too beat up, can always add another coat of paint.

I also made a Youtube video of the design and build process. You can see the video using this link.

Nice work. The rounded corners and edges are good for little shavers. Pointy corners that bark your shins/ribs are a pet peeve of mine.

Brown isn’t my fave but since it was cust spec, it’s just right.

That is a nice looking bench. Though the idea of three kids all brushing their teeth at the same time sounds like a mess waiting to happen ;)
