Truck Boxes

Just refinished these truck boxes which were made four years ago. The boxes have 3/8” plywood sides, 1/4” plywood bottoms and ends, and a finger like projection that slides down into a tie-down bracket to keep it from sliding around the bed of the truck. They are easily removed and snapped back in place when necessary. They work well, but the “lavender” house paint got scuffs easily and some weather covers were added to shed water.

I just refinished the boxes with a couple coats of red floor and porch paint thinking it might take the punishment better. The boxes have been very handy with one for road emergency, and the other for hiking gear. No locks or latches on the lids, but the tonneau cover is tight and secure.

Nice job on the truck boxes. Living in WA I guess you had to cover them or they wouldn’t last very long with all the rain you folks get.

I also went to your website and you and your wife are very talented. I listened to some of your music and I have to say “Shade Tree Mechanic” was fantastic.

Those are such a good way to keep things from getting lose and banging around the bed.
Would have liked to see that fine woodworking in a clear marine poly finish.

But I know you really like those boxes and you want to camouflage them with red paint so no one will notice them when you forget to close the lid while hacking. Lol

I have a full size pick up and can see the value in this type of storage..

Awsuum, this side of the Cascade Mts gets thirty some inches of rain per year, but a lot of it is just drizzles. Thanks for the comment on the music, that is my first joy even before making dust in the shop.

James, thanks for the comments. The boxes are very accessible from the side of the pickup which is nice. The red paint is just because it was free from the shed. If they weren’t hidden under the tonneau cover they might have had a classier finish.

Have your say...
