Well…I’ve started the next one. Neck is finished except for front faceplate. I plan to put a light figured veneer with walnut inlay as shown here for referenced. Inlay is cut. Now to engrave recessed area to inlay the letters. Scary since work is done on neck already. A mistake could result in a complete re-do of the neck and many lost hours of work to build the neck!

Looks good. Did you CNC the letters? Inlaying the veneer before attaching to the headstock is a pretty popular way of doing things. Then just thin it down on the drum sander before attaching, assuming you have one. A hand plane also works or just a hard sanding block. If you do glue the headplate first, it’s easy enough to remove and replace the veneer if you have an oopsie.

Yes, CNC both. You are right but I just got the laser and couldn’t resist. Will be engraving the headstock today. I was going to veneer the headstock anyway with some rosewood so if I mess it up, I’ll just cover it up with veneer and use my decals as usual. Lol test run on waste block came out perfect. Wish me luck!

I tried cutting another test inlay on laser CNC and engraving recessed areas for logo and it worked really well. Still needs sanding to flush at this point, but I’m happy enough to go on to actual guitar headstock. The other logo in the pic is a test I did with acrylic pearl, silver and gold. Gold is my favorite. I was going to build the acrylic to flush and polish before clear finish, but I kinda like the texture as you see in the pic. So I may add clear epoxy to flush and then clear over that. We’ll see…maybe on next guitar. Five in the last year is enough!
