Gate Latch

While watching a Matthias Wandel video on YouTube about door latches that his dad made for the cabins on his property I came across one I thought would work on our back yard gate. His dad made a different one for every door in every cabin and all work great. I hope the one I made works as well. I soaked all of the parts in Lin Seed Oil to help protect them against the elements and I used stainless steel screws. The test will be after a good soaking rain and also the Florida heat.
.
. Short video on how it work here on YouTube.

Looks good, works well, nice one…

Thanks Jack! It does look like a screw! But it’s a spring!

Thanks Steven!
The gate is almost 9 years old if I get that much time from this latch I’ll be happy!

It’s a excellent gate latch Tony. The ones that are made for gates like that don’t work that well. With the rain and heat in your area the test of time won’t take long. This is the perfect latch for anyone who needs this type.

I’m debating whether to leave it natural or stain it.

Thanks Dave, I took your advice about the Linseed Oil. I soaked all the parts in the Oil. After you showed me how well it worked on you little handle I was convinced that Linseed Oil was the way to go! The latch should last for a while! Now that I have made one and have a pattern to follow making a 2nd is no problem.
