It’s been awhile since I made a fishing lure. I’ve been getting back to furniture and completed 4-5 pieces lately. But I figured I wanted to do something that could be completed in a few hours instead of a few days. So, back to carve and paint a fishing lure. This one is a spinner crank bait. Never made one before. Made of yellow birch (I had some left over from a dresser I just completed) and as usual I make everything but the hooks and in this case, the spinner blade.

See it here. Or click the picture below.

As always, that looks like a real fish getter. Good job Dan. Got your boat in the water yet? We’re picking up ours today out of storage, so could see you on the water soon.

Thanks Jim. Not yet, I’ve got to get it opened up and prep it. Adding one more battery from the camper first. All my AGM’s are getting older now and are getting weak. They’ll need replacing soon. This summer I’ll be springing for a 200Ah Lithium battery system from BigBattery. Pricy but lots of advantages over the ones I’m using now including a 10 yr warranty. Will double as camper/boat battery too. A self contained 47lb case with handles.

Anyway, I’ll see you out there at some point. Getting older so now we sprung for lifetime fishing licenses so I gotta use it now!

Fine work on the crank bait. I love using them this time of year. I still have a few wooden ones that belonged to my dad and they still are my favorite. The bite marks in them shows real action. LOL.

Ya, sometimes you get one and it just works, don’t know why but it does. I had a red and white bucktail fly my brother in law made for me when I was a kid. Whoever used it caught fish even when no one else did. I kept working until I lost it to a fish. By that time it was half eaten and chewed up but still kept working. Makes one wonder why doesn’t it?

No fish yet. Ice went out a couple of weeks ago. Still prepping the boat. I have two dobyn’s rods, Ones a fury and this one in the picture is a Champion glass crank rod. I grab it whenever I can. Love the action when pulling in a decent sized fish, of which I wish happened more often!
