I made this box as a thank you gift for lifelong friend. This friend lives right by parents and has been there to help my parents for years, as my parents have battled health issues including several bouts of cancer. This friend is someone I’ve known my entire life and wanted to give her a “Memory Box.” A small box to keep memory items in for her new grandchild. So, I surprised her with one of my boxes.
This box was unlike any box I have ever made. I actually found plans online for this box and followed the plans and changed them for me. https://kregjig.ning.com/forum/topics/free-project-plan-of-the-month-wooden-gift-box. I’ve never looked at plans before just seen a box formed new ideas so this was kind of fun to see plans think about following them then say naa I’ll do this way.
I’ve wanted to try these plans for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity to try them. I have to admit I made a few errors. So, my better half stepped in with ideas and helped me make the errors in something very different. That is what the groves on the top and the cross pieces on the lid are about.
The box is walnut and maple. (I must say those 2 species together always seem to work for me! I really like them together). For the finish I used Briwax, https://briwax.com. I have never used this finish before and I loved it. I will be using it again and highly recommend it. I used clear for this box.

As always thanks for looking and any comments always welcome and always read!

Interesting box. I like the stops on the lid. Hope your friend likes it.

Good on you for the payback of good deeds done. :-)

Thank you therealSteveN. The stops where a cover up but I like them LOL

But yes she loves the box, and thank you. It feels good to pay back even a very small amount back.

That is a VERY interesting design. One of a kind for one of a kind individual. There’s nothing about it to not like – great job.
