Project Information

Found a fascinating walnut vener and thought it should be a great background for either a marquetry or intarsia motive. This is not marquetry. I'm not sure it's intarsia, it sits above the background so I guess it's just a wooden eagle. I cut the eagle from around a maple knot to get the figure for the head, and a piece of walnut scrap for the body. The eye is cut from Holly and accented with Pyro.
Yes, another shop wall hanging. My wife prefers a old rough barnwood shelf to this stuff, go figure!

Thanks for looking,

That is absolutely fantastic. It is really beautiful. What an excellent use of the natural wood grain. I don't agree with your wife's decorating taste. But at least she has good taste in husbands.

Excellent work and selection of beautiful wood for your design. You've done an outstanding job of matching the natural grain with your vision. That maple was suppose to be an eagle and you made it happen.
Great execution!

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on Lumberjocks. And there are some talented people on here.
Unreal. It should be in a museum or something.

I missed this at publication, I guess. This is gorgeous! It's hanging in the shop!? I feel your pain. My wife quilts, and there is no place to put up a carving. I'm just going to start giving them away…
