The Scrapple Board

I was compelled to make something out of scraps – five loaves and two fishes, you know. The result was okay, but I won’t be doing this again any time soon. Most of you can anticipate why… assembly of this board required probably a dozen glue-up sessions. I have only so many clamps. Each session requires ~6 hours for the Titebond III to set up. That’s a long time to keep your clamps occupied. Obviously, a product like this is suitable for a hobbyist, not for merchant/lumberjock for whom time is money. 9” by 12” with maple, cherry, walnut, purpleheart, padauk, and a whole lot of glue. The result is very attractive, however. This board has found a “forever home” in Ephrata, PA.

p.s. for younger readers: “scrapple” was/is a product composed of meat packing wastes. Some truly vile stuff, even though many of us greybeards have fond memories of being served scrapple fried up by our loving grandmothers.

Finished last three years of high school at Westtown, a boarding school in Chester County, PA. Scrapple was on the menu at least once a week. That that doesn’t kill you…

Oh, yeah – the school also had a good woodshop. I just might have to make a Scrapple Board for old times sake! Thanks for the idea.

Well it may have a lot of time and effort BUT sir, the end result is so worth it.
The board is gorgeous, well done!

And PS: You can never have too many clamps so start dropping so hints around the family as birthday and Father’s Day gift suggestions.

It looks great. What a good idea. Perhaps my weekend project. Well done.
