A generic owl, loosely based on the colouring of a barn owl.
Carved from Meranti and painted with Jo Sonjas, coated with satin (would of preferred matt) water based varnish to stop any yellowing of the paint.
Decided to try and do a more carved look with the feathers being noticeably carved. I thought that it would lessen the painting time, which it did.
It wasn’t hard but took a lot of thinking that I didn’t have at the time.
This project took far longer than anticipated as I had a major flare up and was out of action for a number if weeks. Thankfully it’s off to its new home being well received.
Generic owl

When I saw its small stature in perspective with the hand holding pictures, it became adorable.

I looked at your sites. You are very prolific in your work. That’s some energy!
Another cool carving to add. I see why you call this owl, generic, for your other barn owls are right on.
I love the Pelican and your hearts.
Oh yea, love your paintings too, a real all around artist, very cool…
