Dining Room Buffet

This buffet is a set with the dining room table I completed late last year, made with the same Silver Maple, Weather Wash gray dye and their water based varnish. The only secondary wood used was pine for the drawers when I ran out of maple:

Although I used machines to remove most of the waste, construction was via as many hand tools as possible. I cut dados, groves and rebates with wooden planes, and final surfaced the boards with metal and wooden hand planes;

The first board in this project I completely surfaced flat and true with hand tools, which proved to be quite arduous due to the hardness of the maple, so I made a planer sled with a big box purchased thermally fused laminate shelf board for the remaining boards to obtain a flat surface. Relatively inexpensive & longer than my maximum need of 60 inches, this worked out well:

Thanks for viewing.

very nice build especially using hand tools. I think I see some either flame or curl poking thru the gray wash -

Fine work! The joinery is great and I like the finish.

Nice results, and great seeing your collection of old tools while you put them to use.

Really nice work using hand tools. I sometimes struggle with the dado plane and getting some tear out. Seems like it worked well for you… :)
