My skill up journey continues! I’ve spent dedicated time the past year on joinery, sharpening, dovetailing, boxmaking, and now, I’m super excited to begin the new phase, tool making!

This weeks project was a treat to make, one of the simplest and most straight forward projects I’ve worked on for some time, so I really enjoyed it. I think all up this was done in less than a couple of hours, and the time just flew by.

Video on my channel if you’re interested: https://youtu.be/c1uMgilAI3Y

The base of this marking gauge comes from a kit which Katz-Moses demoed on his channel a little while back. The actual kit comes from an American store, when I tried to buy it after his video came out, I found they were out of stock. Fortunately a couple mates of mine from the online woodworking world had bought these for themselves, and one had decided he didn’t have the time to do it so sold it on to me.

While the kit makes things very simple, there really isn’t much to these at all, a rod, a cutter, and a knob to tighten it all down. I want to make a few more of these, so I’m working on putting together a similar style kit from parts that I can buy off the shelf in Australia.

Cheers,
Mario

Nice job! Tool making is definitely gratifying.

Nice work Mario. You mentioned a printing problem in your YouTube video, which you probably can solve using Matthia Wandel’s BigPrint program – see https://woodgears.ca/bigprint/
I did try to post this on your video, but I either deleted it when trying to edit it, or it was removed because it contained links.
As I tried to say, Matthias’s YouTube channel contains very interesting stuff – https://www.youtube.com/user/Matthiaswandel

Thanks all, I really like it. :)

@Don, normally if a comment has links youtube will hide it until I approve it, but in this case it doesn’t appear for me at all. All good though, I’m familiar with bigprint, Matthias’ channel is one of the ones that I used to watch religiously each Monday evening for many years. :)

In this case, my issue with printing is due to one reason, and one reason only, I’m cheap.
